Talbert and Young Named Carolinas

Junior Golf Players of the Year; Six Named All-Carolinas

     McKenzie Talbert of North Augusta, SC and Carson Young of Pendleton, SC have been named the Carolinas Junior Golf Players of the Year and All-Carolinas for 2011.  Joining Talbert on the All-Carolinas Girls’ Team are Sarah Bae of Cary, NC and Kelli Murphy of Elgin, SC.  Along with Young on the All-Carolinas Boys’ Team are Will Starke of Chapin, SC and Benjamin Griffin of Chapel Hill, NC.  Press Release

                         


WAKE FOREST ANNOUNCES 2012 CAMP DATES

     Coach Jerry Haas has announced camp dates for summer 2012.  Join Coach Haas and other head college golf coaches from around the country at Wake Forest University's 18-acre Arnold Palmer Golf Practice Facility, collegiate home of PGA talents such as Jay Haas, Scott Hoch, Curtis Strange, Billy Andrade, Bill Haas and Webb Simpson. SARAH BAE REPEATS AS NC GIRLS' PLAYER OF THE YEAR;

MILLER CAPPS NAMED NC BOYS' PLAYER OF THE YEAR

     Sarah Bae of Cary and Miller Capps of Denver have been named the 2011 N.C. Junior Players of   the Year by the  Tarheel Youth Golf Association (TYGA) and the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA). This is the second straight year Bae has been named the NC junior girl’s player of the year.  The N.C. Junior Player of the Year award recognizes one girl and one boy who have had the most successful year in amateur and junior golf events at the local, state, regional and national levels.   These outstanding juniors, along with the 2011 N.C. All-State Girls’ and Boys’ teams, will be honored at the N.C. Junior Golf Night Awards Banquet on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Pine Needles Resort in Southern Pines, NC.  Press release


OVER 60 SENIORS SIGN TO PLAY COLLEGE GOLF

     60 high school seniors from across the Carolinas signed their National Letter of Intent during the early signing period to play collegiate golf.  The early period was from November 9 - 16, 2011.  Congratulations to all who signed early.  Early Signees


STEPHENSON SETS GIRLS' SCORING RECORD WINNING THE

SCJGA PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP; ZOLLER TAKES BOYS TITLE

     The 14th Annual Players Championship has concluded, and what a great event as always! Lauren Stephenson shattered the scoring record set by Taylor Ann Dodson last year in the Girls 14-18 division. Lauren fired 66-66 for a two day total of 132. In the Boys 15-18 bracket, we had our first ever brother duo to capture the same title with Austin Zoller winning this years title. His brother Taylor won back in 2009. Trevor Phillips captured the Boys 13-14 title while his younger brother, Trent Phillips, won the Boys 10-12 bracket. Congrats to Natalie Srinivason for winning the Girls 11-13 title. A very special thanks to Lewis Brown, Hartsville CC, the Coker College Boys and Girls teams for helping this year end event continue to be special.  Players Championship Homepage


BUSHWOOD ALL-STARS AND THE GRASS MASTERS LEAD

AFTER ROUND ONE OF TYGA TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

          The Bushwood All-Stars shot a first round 147 to take a three shot lead after round one of the TYGA Team Championship at Seven Lakes CC in West End, NC.  Bushwood was lead by a one under par 71 by Victor Wiggins of Gastonia, NC.  Wiggins has a four shot lead in the boys' individual competition heading into Sunday's final round.  In the girls' only division, The Grass Masters shot a 161 and have a one shot lead over Team Osiecki and Daddies' Little Girls.  The Grass Masters were lead by Alaina Yeatts of Durham who shot a seven over par 79.  Sarah Bae of Cary leads the girls' individual competition with a round of 75.  Each team consists of three players and the best two scores are used for the daily team score.  Round 1 results


TALBERT, PROVEAUX, NESMITH AND

ZOLLER NAMED ROLEX ALL-AMERICANS

     McKenzie Talbert of North Augusta, SC, Cody Proveaux of Leesville, SC, Matthew Nesmith of North Augusta, SC and Taylor Zoller of North Charleston, SC have each been named to the 2011 Rolex Junior All-American Team by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA).  Full story


PROVEAUX NAMED ROLEX PLAYER OF THE YEAR

     Cody Proveaux of Leesville, SC has been named the Rolex Junior Boys' Players of Year by the American Junior Golf Association.  Proveaux was also named Rolex All-America First Team.  Proveaux earned the right to Rolex Junior Player of the Year accolades on the strength of wins at the Polo Golf Junior Classic and the Junior PGA Championship, and four additional runner-up showings.  Introduced by the AJGA in 1978, the Rolex Junior Player of the Year award recognizes one boy and one girl who had the most outstanding year in junior golf events at the national level.  When Proveaux travels to PGA National Resort & Spa to accept his Rolex Junior Player of the Year trophy, he will be returning to the tournament where his award-winning season began. At the 2010 Polo Golf Junior Classic, Proveaux won five matches, including a semifinal victory over then-Rolex Junior Player of the Year Anthony Paolucci, en route to his first AJGA Invitational crown.  Full story


GATOR WINTER GOLF ACADEMY SET FOR DEC. 18-21

     The University of Florida will host the 2011 Gator Winter Golf Academy on December 18-21, 2011 in Gainesville, FL.  The Gator Winter Golf Academy will provide great small group instruction for the long term development of our campers. We will focus on fundamentals, individual instruction, and a wide variety of seminars to cover all facets of the game. Our campers will work with one instructor all week in a small group, which keeps the communication simple and consistent throughout the entire camp. Campers will also have an opportunity to participate in clinics throughout the week which will allow our campers an opportunity to learn from all of our experienced coaches. Our coaches will create a great learning atmosphere for our campers in a fun, but productive environment.  Brochure


BECOME A PGA CHAMPIONSHIP JUNIOR VOLUNTEER

     Each Junior Volunteer, ages 16-21 as of August 6, 2012, will be placed on one of four committees: Leaderboards & Thru-boards, Monster Board or Standard Bearers. All junior volunteer committee assignments will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.  A volunteer fee is not required. However, each Junior Volunteer must commit to a minimum of 12 volunteer hours during the week of the PGA Championship.  For more information, please contact the PGA Championship Office by calling (843) 768-6003. DILLARD DRIVE MIDDLE WINS NC MIDDLE SCHOOL;

CHANG AND FREEMAN TAKE INDIVIDUAL TITLES

     Dillard Drive Middle School of Cary, NC shot a team total of four over par 146 to win the 10th NC Middle School Championship at Badin Inn GC in Badin, NC.  Dillard Drive’s team was represented by eight grader Eric Bae and sixth grader Jennifer Chang.  Bae shot a round of even par 71 to finish in second place in the boys’ division and Chang took the girls’ title with a round of four over par 75.  Finishing in second place was Carolina Day School of Asheville, NC.  Carolina Day School was lead by the boys’ champion John Freeman.  Freeman, an eight grader, shot a three under par 68 to win the boys' division by three shots.  Final results 


OWEN RUNS AWAY WITH BOYS' TYGA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

BROOKS WINS GIRLS' DIVISION IN PLAYOFF

     It took extra holes, but Emily Brooks of Chapel Hill went the extra distance and captured the girls’ title in the TYGA State Championship in playoff.  Brooks, a high school senior, finished with a two day total of 153 on the par 71 Sapona CC golf course.  Brooks defeated Evelyn Dole of Raleigh and Emily Stinson of Charlotte on number ten, the first playoff hole.  Finishing tied for fourth at 154 was Sarah Bae, the NC Junior Girls’ champion, of Cary and Tara Simmons of Goldsboro.  Tanner Owen of High Point won the boys’ division by seven shots finishing with a two day total of five under par 137.  Owen, a high school sophomore, was the only player to finish the tournament under par.  Finishing tied for second at two over par 142 were Tanner Gross of High Point, Alex Nianouris of Salisbury, Benjamin Griffin of Chapel Hill and Carter Jenkins of Raleigh.  Final result


LANGDALE & YOUNG WIN SCJGA TRADITION FOUR BALL;

MURPHY AND HIRAI TAKE GIRLS' TITLE

     Austin Langdale (Townville) and his partner, Carson Young (Pendleton) started the day with a one stroke lead and went to work quickly. A front nine 30 separated the team pretty quickly from the field. A lone birdie on the back nine finished the team dressed in Clemson Orange with a consecutive 65 and a seven stroke margin of victory. The overall girl's title went to Kelli Murphy (Elgin) and Reona Hirai (Summerville) after they fired 65 to post a 138 total. Murphy had five birdies on her own ball on the front nine to help separate the team from their nearest competitors. The boys 13-14 division started the day tied at 69. Winn Taylor (Greenville) and Jimmy Self (Greenwood) held on to win thanks to four birdies on their day. Their 137 total was strokes clear of second.  Full results

BAE AND WOMBLE NAMED N.C. JUNIOR PLAYERS OF THE YEAR

The N.C.
